General Social Care Council

The General Social Care CouncilĀ  was, untilĀ  31 July 2012, the workforce regulator and guardian of standards for the social care workforce in England. The Council was established in October 2001 under the Care Standards Act 2000. It was responsible for the codes of practice, Social Care Register and social work education and training.

As of 1 August 2012, the regulation of the social work profession and education (and several other professions) was transferred to the Health and Care Professions Council.
